KARACHI, Aug 23: The Mutahida Majlis-i-Amal — an electoral alliance of six religious parties — has allocated 11 seats of the National Assembly and 14 seats of the Sindh Assembly in the province to Jamaat-i-Islami.

According to Jamaat spokesman Sarfraz Ahmad, the recipients of MMA tickets in Karachi are: NA-241 Muzaffar Ahmad Hashmi, NA-242 Taj Mohammad, NA-244 Mairaj-ul-Huda, NA-245 Syed Munawwar Hasan, NA-246 Rashid Naseem, NA-250 Abdul Sattar Afghani, NA-251 Abdul Ghaffar Omar, NA-252 Mohammad Hussain Mehanti, NA-253 Asadullah Bhutto, NA-255 Aslam Mujahid and NA-257 Osama Bin Razi.

For the Sindh Assembly, the recipients were PS-93 Hameedullah Advocate, PS-101 Naseem Siddiqui, PS-102 Syed Mohammad Iqbal, PS-103 Syed Mohammad Muslim, PS-104 Hafiz Naeem-ur-Rehman, PS-105 Intikhab Alam, PS-108 Syed Mehar Shah, PS-111 H.M. Hanif, PS-114 Zahoor Jiddon, PS-116 Nasrullah Shaji, PS-118 Syed Mohammad Qutub, PS-124 Aslam Shaikh, PS-125 Aslam Mujahid, and PS-126 Yunus Badai.

Meanwhile, Secretary-general of the Jamaat-i-Islami Syed Munawar Hasan, on Friday demanded lifting of the ban on political activity in the country, adds PPI.

Addressing a press conference at Idara Noor-i-Haq, he hinted that talks could be held with the Muttahida Qaumi Movement after the filing of nomination papers.

“The MMA has decided to challenge candidates having government support on one-to-one basis in all the constituencies of the national and provincial assemblies”, he said.

He said that only fair and transparent elections could restore the army’s respect and credibility among the people of the country.

He alleged that the government had planned rigging in the polls to bring its favourites in power. He demanded withdrawal of amendments made to the constitution.

He announced that the MMA’s “Rabita-i-Awam” campaign, would start on Tuesday, August 27, with a public meeting in Peshawar; the following day a train march would start from Peshawar to Lahore where a public meeting would be held on the same day.

On August 29, MMA leaders would begin another train march from Lahore to Sukkur, and then to Karachi on August 30. On their way, MMA leaders would address people at various stations.
