KARACHI: Traffic walk

KARACHI, Aug 23: The traffic police, in coordination with the Pakistan Hotels Association (PHA) and Citizen’s Coordination Committee is organizing a traffic walk on Sunday with the objective of creating awareness among pedestrians about the observance of traffic rules to check the growing rate of fatalities of pedestrians in traffic accidents.

The aims of the walk were divulged in detail at a press conference by DIG Traffic Saud Mirza and Chairman PHA Syed Arshad Ali here on Friday.

Saud Mirza said that the walk will start at 10:00 am from Boat Basin, and after passing through Schon Circle and Do Talwar, it will terminate at the Kothari Parade. A large number of citizens from all walks of life, besides students, will participate in the walk, he said.

Chairman PHA Arshad Ali told the press conference that the objective of the walk was to build up traffic discipline.

He said the Citizen’s Traffic Coordination Committee has been setup to undertake various activities to create greater public awareness regarding the need for traffic discipline.

The DIG Traffic informed that over the last 10 years, the average rate of fatalities in road traffic accidents has remained about 600, and of this, the ratio of pedestrians killed stood at over 55 per cent.—APP
