Abid, Zain in final

ISLAMABAD, Aug 22: Abid Ali advanced to the under-12 final of the Freedom Cup tennis championship Thursday with a 4-2, 4-0 victory over Zain Haider Khan. In the final to be played Saturday, Abid will take on Zain Abbas.

The under-18 competition saw Babar Ali springing a surprise by knocking out Suleman Bashir in the semifinal 6-4, 6-4.

In the other semifinal Wasif Cheema comfortably beat Umair Javed 6-0, 6-3 to set up a meeting in the final with Babar.

Results:

Boys under-18 semifinals: Babar Ali bt Suleman Bashir 6-4, 6-4, Wasif Cheema bt Umair Javed 6-0, 6-3.

Girls under-18: Saman Shahid bt Ayesha Mansoor 5-4, 4-2, Zara Omer bt Muneezah Shahid 4-1, 4-0.

Boys under-12 semifinals: Abid Ali bt Zain Haider 4-2, 4-0 Consolation under-12: Khursheed Ali bt Farhan Shahid 4-0, 4-2, Umair Khalid bt Zahid Ajam 4-2, 4-2, Shan Sardar bt Karam Gardezi 5-3, 2-4, 4-0.

Consolation under-14: Abid Ali bt Talah Waseem 4-2, 4-0.
