SUKKUR, Aug 22: The last deluge of more than 242,690 cusecs water was passing through Sukkur Barrage on Thursday.

The irrigation authorities of Sukkur and Guddu informed the secretary for irrigation that the big deluge of 290,000 cusecs water had passed safely through Guddu Barrage on Thursday, causing a medium flood.

They also sent a letter to authorities concerned that Bachao Bund, which was under threat, was now safe and minor erosions had occurred in the Bund at some places in Ghotki district.

The irrigation authorities said arrangements had been made to strengthen the weak points in upper Sindh and hoped that water would pass safely from Sukkur Barrage by Thursday night.

They said low intensity flood was very useful for people of kutcha area and added that 80 per cent of the kutcha area was now under water and a good crop was expected.

The waterflow at Guddu on Thursday was upstream 220,983 cusecs, which was reduced by 65,000 cusecs water from Wednesday, and the waterflow at Sukkur was 242,690 cusecs, which according to the irrigation authorities was the maximum flow of this season.

According to the irrigation authorities, after passing of this deluge, the water shortage was again feared in September as the water level at the Tarbela Dam would start reducing.

forms: The Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education, Sukkur, has announced that examination forms for PTC/ CT annual examination, 2001-2002, will be accepted without late fee up to Aug 27 and with late fee of Rs100 up to Sept 3.

The examinations will be conducted from Sept 16.
