ISLAMABAD, Aug 22: The Election Commission has allotted separate symbols to the members parties of the Grand Democratic Alliance after being told by Hamid Nasir Chattha that the alliance had been dissolved.
The EC, after hearing Sardar Zahid Hussain Nakai, who endorsed Chatta’s statement, allotted symbols to the following component parties:
Pakistan Muslim League (J), (bus); Markazi Jamiat Ahl-i-Hadith, (sewing machine); Mohajir Ittehad Tehrik, (fountain); Pakistan Humwattan Party, (mountain); Tehrik Wafaq Pakistan, (whistle); and Pakistan Jumhoori Aman Party, (scissors).
The remaining parties’ documents were not in conformity with the provisions of the PPO.
An EC announcement said that a request had been received from Fatehyab Ali Khan, President, Pakistan Mazdoor Kisan Party that he wanted to file a review petition against the rejection of his party’s documents on Aug 22, 2002.
