HYDERABAD, Aug 22: Although the last date to file nomination papers for the national and provincial assemblies election is only two days away (Aug 24), none of the major political parties, including PPP, PML (all factions) and MQM, and alliances like the MMA and the SDA have made the names of their candidates public.
Only four independent candidates filed their forms on Thursday for provincial assembly seats.
Even Makhdoom Mohammad Amin Faheem, who is the acting chairperson of the PPP and a sure candidate for the National Assembly seat from his ancestral constituency of Hala, has not yet filed his nomination papers.
One reason can be that the filling of the nomination form is very difficult as there are so many complicated columns, nevertheless, no labour is involved in announcing the names of candidates.
The PPP, city chapter, is plagued with internecine fighting as some members have vowed to block the way of those leaders who according to them had stolen ballot papers in the party election held on July 28.
This, however, cannot prevent the party high command from announcing the names of its candidates.
Only Naveed Qamar has obtained the nomination forms for NA-222 (Hyderabad-V) and the MQM’s Aftab Sheikh for NA-219.
