KARACHI: Water shortage in several areas

By Our Staff Reporter

KARACHI, Aug 22: Various parts of former districts West and Central continued to experience acute water shortage for the last fortnight.

The hard-hit areas include Orangi’s Sector 11 1/2, Baloch Colony, Benazir Colony; several sectors of Baldia and Surjani townships, North Karachi’s Sector 11-C-/1 (Sir Syed Town), Buffer Zone’s Sector 15-A/5 and Federal B’ Area’s blocks 14, 15 and 16.

Residents of the affected areas complained that although their localities are either without water or receiving scant supply for the last two weeks, the concerned officials of the KWSB have not yet taken measures to restore normal supply despite a number of complaints lodged with them.

Complaints of persisting water shortage have also been received from residents of Saudia Colony’s sectors 8-A, 8-B and 9, Khokhrapar No 2 1/2 and Clifton’s Block 2.

Residents of Saudia Colony’s affected sectors said that since they are deprived of water for the last one week, they have no choice but to consume wells’ unhygienic water.

They demanded of the city Nazim and KWSB’s managing director to direct the concerned officials to immediately restore normal supply in their localities as they cannot afford to buy private water tankers for such a longer period.
