KARACHI, Aug 22: The Member Central Board of Revenue (CBR), Habib Fakhruddin, has said that the board officials under the Income Tax Ordinance 2001 has no powers to issue directives with regard to Self-Assessment Scheme.

Addressing members of Pakistan Cloth Merchants Association (PCMA) here on Thursday, he said the SAS has now become part of the law and is applicable for returns to be filed in Sept 2003.

He said that income tax law has been simplified and the discretionary powers of income tax officers have been withdrawn. Habib said all care has been taken to ensure a minimum contact between the IT official and the assessee.
