HYDERABAD, Aug 21: Sindh Governor Mohammedmian Soomro has said the government is giving top priority to industrial development so as to create maximum job opportunities for people and enhance the country’s exports.
He was inaugurating the long-awaited gas supply scheme to the Nooriabad Industrial Area, about 75 km from here, on Wednesday.
He said increased production capacity and marketing of end products could play a vital role in accelerating economic activities.
The Sindh governor said the government was implementing and strengthening the process of privatization to make the country prosperous.
He said the president was interested in laying down energy network, especially in the far-flung areas, to explore and exploit natural resources of these areas.
Responding to the demand for more plots for industrial units in Nooriabad, Soomro said 3,000 acres had so far been approved for the extension of the Nooriabad Industrial Estate.
He lauded the efforts of industrialists, especially those of Nooriabad and Kotri industrial areas, for participating in the industrial development of the province.
He appealed to the private sector and other entrepreneurs to come forward and set up new industrial units.
In his speech, the president, Nooriabad Trade and Industry, Yasin Siddiqui, thanked President Gen Pervez Musharraf and the Sindh governor for providing maximum incentives to investors for speedy industrial development of the province.
The president, Executive Club of Trade and Industry, Kanwar Ziaur Rehman, in his speech of welcome, underlined the problems confronting industrialists of Nooriabad, with particular emphasis on water and power supply.
Sui Southern Gas Company managing-director Inamul Samad said 1.6 million people of Nooriabad and adjoining areas would benefit due to the gas pipeline being laid by the company.
He said the company was working to provide gas connections to 91 cities and 474 villages of Sindh and added that 165 kilometres long gas pipeline was also being laid in Sindh and Balochistan to provide 18,000 more connections.
