No ban on Shabaz’s return

By Our Staff Reporter

LAHORE, Aug 20: Deputy Attorney General Khwaja Saeeduz Zafar informed the Lahore High Court on Tuesday that the interior ministry had issued no instructions regarding a ban on the return of former Punjab chief minister Shahbaz Sharif to Pakistan.

Submitting the reply to a writ petition filed by the Pakistan Muslim League’s Primary Unit 4, Shahdara, president Gulzar Shahid, the Deputy Attorney General said the federal government and its agencies would act in accordance with law in the event of his return.

The court disposed of the petition in the light of the statement made by the Deputy Attorney General.

The petitioner had approached the court to allow Mr Sharif to return to Pakistan and participate in political activities.

He had pointed out that the PML president had neither been convicted nor there was a law preventing his return to the country.
