Brothers strike gold medals

By Our Sports Reporter

ISLAMABAD, Aug 20: Brothers Muhammad Awais and Moin-ud-Din Miraj won gold medals at the third International Taekwondo Championship in Eschwege, Germany.

In their first international competition, Awais, 26 and Moin two years younger, achieved the honours by displaying their skills in a field that had taekwondo masters competing from some 20 countries.

Both Awais and Moin who hold balck belts (five dan) said that contesting in the event was tough for them because they arrived in Eschwege the day the event was to start. “We were on the plane for some 11 hours and very tired when we got there,” they said. “But still we gathered all our energies and were able to impress the judge with our demonstrations.”

They said that they had won the medals not for themselves but for the country and hoped to continue competing at such levels and earn more laurels.
