KARACHI, Aug 20: City Nazim Naimatullah Khan has called upon the land-owning agencies in Karachi to play their part in the cleanliness drive to be launched by the city government so that the desired results could be obtained.

He was speaking to officials of the DHA, the Karachi Cantt, the Pakistan Railways, the Civil Aviation Authority and other land-controlling departments, at the city government secretariat here on Tuesday.

He said it was a general misconception that the city government was the sole land-owning authority in Karachi; a number of other departments also shared that responsibility and it was their duty to properly maintain their areas.

Stressing that the departments must spend the earnings gained from the city on the city itself, he informed that a master plan was being formulated for the entire city.

Regarding the cleanliness drive to be launched in Karachi from August 22, he called upon all the departments to extend their cooperation in that regard.

The city government has announced to launch a ten-day cleanliness drive from 22nd to 31st of this month. The campaign will formally be launched by planting a sapling at Ojha Institute at 10:00 am on the day.

Town Nazims would oversee the progress of works during the campaign. A committee headed by the EDO health has been formed to ensure effectiveness of the campaign. It consists of the DOs of the department. The committee will also monitor the daily progress report, besides issuing directives for new programmes that can be acquired from its central office.

Extensive cleaning of Shahrahe Faisal will be carried out in the first phase, following which insecticides will be sprayed there.

During the campaign medical superintendents of all major hospitals and those in charge of dispensaries would plant saplings within the premises of their respective hospitals and dispensaries.
