HYDERABAD, Aug 20: The provincial ombudsman, Justice (retd) Haziqul Khairi, on Tuesday inaugurated the regional office of the Ombudsman which will also look after the matters of the Ombudsman office of the defunct Mirpurkhas division.

Later, while addressing a news conference at the local circuit house, Justice Haziqul Khairi said that regional offices would also be set up at Sukkur and Larkana.

He said the Ombudsman Court was in fact a poor mans’ court which provided immediate relief to the aggrieved parties without any expenses.

He said the aggrieved party was not required to engage any advocate.

He said innumerable cases had been decided by the Ombudsman just in one day, which took years in the course of law.

He particularly referred to the habeas corpus cases, awarding of degrees and marks sheets by the boards of education and universities, and admissions.

He said no notices were to be issued to the advocate general or the attorney general in the complaints filed with the Ombudsman, and added that justice was provided without any loss of time.

He said every citizen was welcome to see the files and records of the cases, and added that transparency was the cornerstone in the disposal of complaints.

He said unfortunately the historic city of Hyderabad had been neglected for too long by the federal and provincial governments and, therefore, he had decided to organize a seminar at Hyderabad next month titled “Save Hyderabad”.

He said the seminar will not only identify the problems of Hyderabad but will also try to find out ways to resolve these problems.

Answering a question, Justice Khairi said that the Ombudsman office also had its limitations as it could neither make the law nor change it but only ensure that the law of the land was not violated.

The advisors and consultants to the Ombudsman including Mehtab Akbar Rashidi, Yousuf Jamal, and Abdul Mateen were also present on the occasion.
