RAWALPINDI, Aug 18: A batch of Pakistani troops returned on Sunday after performing peacekeeping duties in Sierra Leone.

According to a press release issued by the Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR), the troops belong to the Special Services Group and Signals.

The director-general of Special Communication Organization, Maj-Gen Waheed Athar Malik, received the Pakistan Army contingent at the airport, the press release added.

The services of Pakistan Army have been widely commended for successful disengagement of the combatants involved in the civil strife and stopping further bloodshed, thus providing solace to the innocent masses of the country.

The peacekeepers successfully restored peace in their area of responsibility through extensive patrolling and disengaging the combatants, the ISPR release added.

The signal troops have proved themselves as a vital component of the United Nations (UN) peacekeeping force in Sierra Leone by rendering valuable services for the restoration of communication in the war-torn country.

The Pakistani ‘Combat Communicators’ were assigned to UN with a mandate of provision of operational communications to UN troops deployed in the eastern districts of Kono and Kailahun.
