80 foreign nationals handed over to Punjab

By Our Correspondent

GILGIT, Aug 18: The Northern Areas police have handed over at least 80 foreigners, including women and children, belonging to Afghanistan, Tajikistan and other Central Asian States to the Punjab police.

All of these foreigners had been staying illegally in the Northern Areas for the last many years, police sources said.

They said some people belonging to the NWFP had also been handed over to the authorities of Punjab for lack of documents.

The sources maintained the step was a part of security measures taken in view of the fact that a large number of foreign nationals were settled and running businesses in the Northern Areas without having legal documents.
