90 colleges opened in two years: governor
ABBOTTABAD, Aug 17: NWFP Governor, Syed Iftikhar Hussain Shah, has said that the NWFP government is utilizing all of its resources to eliminate illiteracy from the province, and has allocated 27 per cent of its budget for the education sector.
He was addressing as chief guest here on Saturday at the convocation ceremony of Government Postgraduate College Abbottabad.
He said that education plays a vital role in the development of nations, which was why the NWFP was giving top priority to it. “We have allocated Rs8 billion for education, of which 80 per cent would be spent on primary education with 70 per cent allocation for females.”
He said the government was concentrating on quality higher education besides the primary education.
“This government has established 90 degree colleges in the NWFP over the last two years, which is a record,” the governor said, adding three universities were also established in the public sector, including an IT university in Abbottabad and Hazara University in Dhodial, Mansehra.
The government is also attaching great importance to the promotion of technical education to meet the challenges of the future, he said.—APP
