ISLAMABAD, Aug 15: President Gen Pervez Musharraf on Thursday met Chief of Muslim League (Functional) Pir Pagara and discussed the current political situation in the context of forthcoming general election.

“For me it was a successful, and for him (the President) it was an informative meeting,” Pir Pagara told reporters after meeting the President.

“I raised the issues, which I thought were pertinent and he discussed what he deemed necessary,” Pir Pagara said, who was very optimistic about Muslim League coming into power.

“The Muslim League will come into power whether there are elections or selection,” he said, claiming that the next prime minister would be from his League.

Mr Pagara, accompanied by Ijaz-ul-Haq and Hamid Nasir Chattha, said that he would work for the reunification of all factions of the Muslim League.

“We will work for the reunification of different factions of the Muslim League and contest the elections under one symbol,” he added.

The new president of the Pakistan Muslim League would be elected by a new council and members to this council would be nominated according to strength and weight of various factions of the League, he said.

He said that his faction had been registered as All Pakistan Muslim League, and he would file an application before the Election Commission not to register any other party in the name of the Muslim League.
