SUKKUR, Aug 15: Sindh Health Minister Ahsan Ahmed has said that the new system of local government is a quiet revolution which will change fate of the poor people.

He was speaking at an award distribution ceremony held at the Public School here on Wednesday in connection with the Independence Day.

He said that Sukkur had been declared a model city of Sindh, where the district government system was being run more effectively. He urged other district governments of the province to follow the suit.

Speaking on the occasion, Sukkur District Nazim Syed Nasir Hussain Shah called on the people to renew their determination to serve the nation and work hard for its prosperity.

He said that his district government was giving top priority to water supply, conversion of Lab-i-Mehran into an amusement park, shifting of cattle pens, establishment of a cadet college at Pano Aqil and start of CT scan service in Sukkur.

He announced Rs.10,000 for P.C. Girls High School and Rs 5,000 each to nine police personnel who were killed in an encounter with bandits.

Meanwhile, the district Nazim Syed Nasir Hussain Shah hoisted the national flag at an Independence Day ceremony at the Jinnah Stadium here, which was participated by a large number of people and students.

The school children displayed P.T. show, tableaus, karate skills and scouts parade, besides singing national songs.

The district Nazim also visited Darul Aman, Civil Hospital, Central Prison I and II to distribute sweets, fruits and cloths.

Our Shikarpur correspondent adds: The 56th Independence Day of Pakistan was celebrated with zest at a ceremony held in the premises of the district council hall in Shikarpur District on Wednesday.

The district Nazim, Mohammed Arif Mehar, hoisted the national flag on the occasion. He distributed fruits and medicines to the patients in the Civil Hospital.

Quiz, speech competitions, and musical programmes were held at educational institutions as well as at public places.

An Independence Day Mela was organized by the Taluka Council Shikarpur at Liaquat Park.

Our Nawabshah correspondent adds: To celebrate the 56th Independence Day, a ceremony was held here on Wednesday at the police ground.

Acting district Nazim Khalid Hussain Channa and the DCO Abdul Qadir Mangi hoisted the national flag.

The acting Nazim and DCO distributed prizes among brilliant students.

Different groups of school students presented tableau, dramas and speeches.

Our Mithi correspondent adds: The 56th Independence Day of Pakistan was celebrated with zest at the ground of the Government Boys High School on Wednesday.

Speaking as the chief guest, the district Nazim, Arbab Attaullah, said Pakistan came into being owing to the struggle and sacrifices rendered by our leaders and forefathers; hence, it becomes the first and foremost duty of all its citizens to work hard for its progress.

A large number of pupils from various schools participated in the Independence Day celebrations.

Similar ceremonies were held at other boys and girls schools of the town.

Pir Abdul Haq Jan Sarhandi, DCO, Ramsingh Sodho, the district Naib Nazim, and a number of teachers participated in the celebrations.

Our Mirpurkhas correspondent adds: A colourful ceremony was held at the municipal complex here to celebrate the Independence Day.

District Nazim Pir Shafqat Hussain Shah Jilani hoisted the national flag.

Later, a big rally, led by the district Nazim, was also taken out, which terminated at Taurabad.

A colourful ceremony was also held at the Bhansinghabad Girls High School where tableau and national songs were presented by children.
