Academy to test teachers’ competence

By Muqaddam Khan

SWABI, Aug 15: The government has stopped the promotion of those teachers whose students have failed to show good results in the Matric exams.

This was stated by the NWFP Governor Syed Iftikhar Hussain Shah while speaking at the inaugural ceremony of Government Degree College for Girls in Murghez here on Tuesday.

The governor, who seemed not too pleased with the teachers whose students had performed badly in the Matric exams, urged the teachers’ community to play their positive role in lifting the education’s standard.

“Our dream of a prosperous future cannot come true without proper education being given to the students,” he said.

The governor said that an education academy would be established to test teachers’ capabilities and improve the prevailing standard.

He said that over the next two years education facilities would be provided in every nook and cranny of the province.

He announced that 10 more girls colleges would be opened and the Frontier Education Foundation established in three universities.

He said that with the efforts of the provincial government the federal government had already allocated Rs30 million for the construction of Karnal Sher Cadet College and the NWFP government would send the project details to the federal government very soon.

He directed the NWFP relief commissioner to prepare a report about the damage caused by the recent torrential rains in the district, promising that the government will fulfil all its responsibilities with regard to provision of relief to the affected people.

The governor also announced that the construction of government girls high school Marghuz had been sanctioned and its old building will be razed to the ground.
