KABUL, Aug 13: Iranian President Mohammad Khatami promised on Tuesday that Iran would never become a haven for Al Qaeda .

“We have announced that in no way will Iran be abused or misused by the terrorist groups who have been in Afghanistan,” Khatami told reporters in Kabul.

Khatami’s comments came shortly after the Iranian foreign ministry confirmed reports that Tehran had handed over to Saudi Arabia 16 Saudi nationals suspected of membership of Al Qaeda.—AFP
