KARACHI, Aug 13: Berthing activity at the Karachi port was fairly active as the port agencies made arrangements to clear the inward rush of foreign flag vessels including those whose arrivals were delayed, according to KPT sources. As a result, seven ships were berthed on Tuesday at the vacant berths on both the wharves. They are: MSC Lucy, HSH Ubin, Kota Wirawan and Mar Challenger, to unload and load containers, Iran Sadr, with rock phosphate, Mercs Kandy, with sugar for Afghanistan and Fortune Hera to unload chemicals.

Three ships, Kota Wirawan, Trade Harvest and Malakand sailed out, while Hyderabad, Mar Challenger, Kota Rukun, Maersk Cons and Tellation are due to sail out on Wednesday.

Berth occupancy at the oil piers was 100 per cent thanks to steady callings by the oil tankers and 61 per cent at dry wharves.

Cargo handling activity was active as the total tonnage handled was maintained on the higher at 74,236 tons comprising 7,963 tons of export cargo and 66,273 tons of import tonnage.

The following ships are due on Wednesday: Kota Rukun, APL Pusan, Al-Mirqab and Kota Salam, with containers, and Stolt Alliance, with chemicals.
