COLOMBO, Aug 12: Sri Lanka’s Susanthika Jayasinghe made up for compatriot Damayanthi Darsha’s absence as she picked up her second gold medal of the Asian Athletic Championships here Monday.
Jaysinghe gave hosts Sri Lanka their second gold of the meet, while Gennadly Chernovol ensured Kazakhstan’s second of the day by winning the men’s 200 metres in 20.73 seconds.
Kuwaiti Fawzi al-Shammari, winner of the 400 metres, clinched a silver in the event.
China topped the medals table at the end of the Asian Athletics Championships Monday after adding the men’s high jump to their gold medal haul.
Cui Kai claimed China’s 10th gold medal of the four-day championship when he cleared 2.19 metres.
Gu Yuan broke the Asian record for women’s hammer throw on the opening day when she recorded a distance of 71.10 metres to shatter the championship record of 61.86 metres she set in 1998.
Qatar came in second in the medals table while Kazakhstan were third with six gold medals, two of which came on Monday.
Kolganov Mikhail won the men’s 800 metres with a time of one minute 48.91 seconds.
