Wenger turned down French job

LONDON, Aug 11: Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has said he turned down the chance to replace Roger Lemerre as coach of the French national team after this year’s World Cup finals.

Wenger said he was approached after defending champions France went out of the first round of the finals in South Korea and Japan.

Lemerre was sacked last month and former Olympique Lyon coach Jacques Santini was appointed in his place.

“I was in touch with the French FA president in Japan after what happened but I never considered taking the job,” Wenger was quoted as saying by the Sunday Telegraph.—Reuters
