Rally demands arrest of rapists

MITHI, Aug 11: A protest rally was taken out here on Sunday under the aegis of an NGO against the rape of a young woman, Padu Bai.

The culprits and their accomplices have not been arrested despite lodging of two FIRs against them.

A large number of women, social workers, representatives of NGOs and elected representatives participated in the rally which started from gymkhana and terminated at the local press club after marching through main streets of the town. The rape victim was also present.

Speaking at the rally, the speakers condemned the rape of the woman and demanded of the president and the Sindh governor to take notice the matter.

The acting convenor of the Tharparkar District Council assured the family of the victim that the district council, which has already passed a resolution at its recent session for the arrest of the culprits, would make efforts to bring the culprits to book.

INQUIRY: The Tharparkar District Council has decided to conduct an inquiry into the alleged embezzlement of the funds of Pabban village water supply scheme.

Tabling a motion in the session of the Tharparkar District Council held here the other day, Rahmatullah Rahimoon, Nazim, Jesse-jo-Paar UC, Chhachhro taluka, alleged that a the sub-engineer of the Public Health Engineering Department, left the boring work of two tubewells at Pabban village incomplete.
