KARACHI: Lyari residents protest against water shortage

By Our Staff Reporter

KARACHI, Aug 11: The residents of Lyari Town staged a protest demonstration on Sunday in front of the Karachi Press Club, against the chronic water shortage in the area.

The protesters — youths, women and children — were carrying banners and placards in support of their demands and chanting slogans against KWSB officials and Lyari Town Nazim.

A leader of the demonstrators said the residents of Ali Mohammad Mohalla had been facing acute-water shortage for the last 13 years.

Though the area people had made various representations to the officials concerned, no steps had been taken yet to mitigate their sufferings, he added.

The protesters described the attitude of the Nazim as biased, saying that a few weeks ago, pipelines meant for supplying water to Ali Mohammad Mohalla through Moosa Lane pumping station had been laid, but the Nazim had got stopped the work owing to political reasons.

They said if the problem was not resolved, they would stage a sit-in on Shah Bhittai Road.
