KARACHI, Aug 10: Five people were killed in the city on Saturday.

Bandits shot dead a private security guard in Ramaswami in the evening. Police said shopkeepers on Tambeywali Gali in Ramaswami hired a private security guard, Liaquat Ali, for their security. On Saturday when three bandits entered a shop to loot the shopkeeper, the security guard fired at them wounding one of the bandits. His two accomplices returned the fire and escaped. A bullet hit Liaquat in the head. He was rushed to a hospital where he died. The injured bandit was admitted to the hospital where police took him into custody.

Another private security guard was shot dead in Samanabad. Police said Amez Khan, aged 32, private security guard, was on duty on a street in Samanabad near a general store, when unidentified men shot him and escaped. He was rushed to a hospital where doctors pronounced him dead on arrival.

Police believed the motive for the killing was personal enmity. The victim hailed from Hazara.

A watchman of a residential complex in Gulistan-i-Jauhar was killed in the morning. A blunt weapon was struck into his head. His alleged killer, Akmal, was arrested in the evening.

Police said the watchman, Mohammed Yaqoob, aged 40, hailing from Punjab, was on duty at Singapore Towers in Block-14 of Gulistan-i-Jauhar, when an unidentified man struck a blunt weapon into his head. He suffered serious head injuries. He died on the spot.

Two youths stabbed their first cousin to death in Mauripur.

Rafiq Brohi, aged 24, was stabbed to death by his cousins Nawaz and Bholu. Rafiq had arguments with them near his house in Tikri village which turned violent. Nawaz and Bholu pulled out a dagger and stabbed Rafiq. He died on the spot.

A young man stabbed his step-father to death outside the latter’s house in SITE.

Police said Zameen Khan, aged 58, often rebuked his step-son Abdus Sattar for sitting idle. Zameen had banned his step-son’s entry into his house and Sattar lived in another house nearby in Pathan Colony.

On Saturday morning, when Zameen was fetching milk from a nearby shop, Sattar intercepted him near his house in street No 3, and stabbed him repeatedly. Sattar escaped. Neighbours rushed Zameen to a hospital where doctors pronounced him dead on arrival.

ACCIDENTS: A teenage girl died and her sister and father were injured when a recklessly-driven bus hit the motorcycle they were travelling on in Nazimabad on Saturday.

Ayaz, aged 45, and his two teenage daughters, Afsheen, aged 16, and Samreen, aged 13, were travelling on a motorcycle when a recklessly-driven bus of route 4-J (JA-1105) hit the motorcycle from behind at Nazimabad No 7. The three persons fell on the ground and were injured. They were rushed to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital where Afsheen died. Enraged people set the bus on fire. The bus driver fled the scene.

Liaquat, aged 60, died in a hit-and-run accident in Orangi Town. In Mominabad, Orangi Town, Abul Kalam died in a road accident. A woman, Shamim Akhtar, aged 40, was run over by a train on the main railway line in Landhi.
