World Cup free of corruption, says Mani

By Our Sports Reporter

ISLAMABAD, Aug 9: Ehsan Mani, president elect of International Cricket Council (ICC) Friday assured a corruption- free World Cup in South Africa next year.

Mani, who was in Islamabad to attend the power-transfer ceremony of the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) said that the ICC had provided the United Cricket Board of South Africa (UCBSA) a list of 100 bookies. This he said has been done to prevent corruption in the game.

A meeting of the ICC’s Anti Corruption Unit will soon be held to ensure that there is no foul play at the World Cup, Mani said.

Meanwhile, he felt that Australia, who cancelled a scheduled Test tour of Pakistan Friday because of security concerns had “tried genuinely” to make the trip. He stressed that despite the Australian decision, it was important that cricket continued, meaning perhaps that the series be played on a neutral venue.
