RAWALPINDI, Aug 9: The police claimed to have identified the alleged terrorist who was killed during an attack on a Protestant chapel in Taxila on Friday, a source said.
A senior official of Rawalpindi police, on condition of anonymity, said the alleged terrorist, killed during the attack which claimed the lives of three nurses, was a resident of Rawalpindi and belonged to a banned religious organization.
The body of the alleged terrorist has been shifted to the DHQ hospital.
When the SSP Rawalpindi district, Moravat Shah, was contacted he said that in the wake of the Taxila terrorist attack security has been tightened in Rawalpindi district.
While admitting the security lapse by the police, the SSP said that constable Aslam who was absent from duty at the chapel had been arrested.
Earlier, in a related move, the DSP and the SHO Taxila have already been transferred.
A bomb disposal expert from Civil Defence department said that the hand-grenades used in the chapel attack in Taxila weighed 1.5 pounds each and contained 8 ounce of explosive material.
One hand-grenade, which remained unexploded in the terrorist’s hand, who had also been killed in the attack, was handed over to the police, the expert said.
All the grenades were Russian-made, he added.
