Rs1.22 billion Quetta budget presented

QUETTA, Aug 9: District Nazim Mohammed Rahim Kakar has presented a budget of Rs1.22 billion for Quetta district for the year 2002-03 in the district council.

Announcing the budget details, the Nazim said the district government’s income for current fiscal year included Rs901 million from the provincial government and Rs93 million from General Sales Tax.

He said the district government would receive Rs28 million from octroi and other taxes, Rs 22million from Social Action Programme, Rs7.5 million from president’s programme, Rs8.5 million from district taxes and Rs5.5 million from other sources, including rents. He said Rs145 million of the last year’s budget could not be spent.

He said that the expenditure for the financial year was estimated at Rs1.22 billion with Rs207 million being allocated for development expenditures, Rs46 million for capital expenditures, Rs890 million for current expenditures and over Rs70 million for town administration and union councils.

He said the provincial government was expected to pay Rs92 million of the GST to the district government, which would be distributed among the city, town and union councils. The share of the district, town and union councils would be Rs37 million, Rs23 million and Rs32 million respectively, he said.

He said Rs5 million had been allocated for women, Rs1.8 million for labourer and peasant and Rs2.8 million for minority members of the council.

He thanked the provincial and the federal governments for providing Rs83 million and Rs24 million to the district government for development schemes under the governor’s and president’s packages respectively.

He said Rs734 million were expected to be released to Quetta Development Authority during the year.
