PESHAWAR, Aug 7: The provincial parliamentary board of Muttahida Majlis Amal (MMA) decided on seat-adjustment of 47 national assembly constituencies of the NWFP and Federally Administered tribal Areas (Fata) here on Wednesday.
After a marathon session, the board in its meeting, presided over by its chairman, Qazi Abdul Lateef, allotted 27 seats to Jamiat-i-Ulema-i-Islam (F), 14 seats to Jamaat-i-Islami, and one seat to JUI(S).
Out of the 35 seats of the NA in the NWFP, 18 go to JUI(F), 11 to JI and one to JUI(S), whereas, the decision could not be taken on 5 seats.
Similarly, of the 12 constituencies in Fata, 9 were allotted to JUI(F) and remaining 3 to JI. At the time of filing this report deliberations were still in progress about the distribution of 99 NWFP assembly seats among the members.
Other component parties of the MMA, an alliance of religious parties, including the proscribe Tehrik-i-Jaffria Pakistan, Jamiat Ahl-i-Hadith and Jamiat-i-Ulema-i-Pakistan (Noornai) were not allowed seats in the province and Fata.
The JI’s chief Qazi Hussain Ahmad is expected to contest on two seats - NA-5 (Nowshera) and NA- 34 (Lower Dir), and Maulana Fazalur Rehman will contest from NA-24 (D.I.Khan) and Maulana Samiul Haq from NA-6 (Nowshera II).
According to initial details the constituencies allotted to JUI(F) in the NWFP included: NA 2, NA 3,, NA 7, NA 8, NA 9, NA 10, NA 12, NA 14, NA 16, NA 18, NA 21, NA 22, NA 23, NA 24, NA 25, NA 26, NA 27 and NA 29.
The constituencies allotted to JI included: NA 1, NA 5, NA 11, NA 13, NA 17, NA 19, NA 20, NA 30, NA 32, NA 33 and NA 34. JUI(S) has been given the seat of NA 6.
Dispute persisted between the member parties on five constituencies - NA 5 (Peshawar), NA 15 (Karak), NA 28 (Buner), NA 31 (Shangla), and NA 35 (Malakand).
