KARACHI: Noorani calls for economic reforms

By Our Staff Reporter

KARACHI, Aug 6: Mutahidda Majlis Amal chief Maulana Shah Ahmad Noorani has said that durable democracy and peace could not be possible under the shadow of poverty.

Maulana Noorani, who is also President of Jamiat Ulema-i-Pakistan, was addressing a gathering before his departure to Lahore.

He said without introducing Islamic economic reforms in the country, situation could not be improved.

Referring to the reforms agenda of the government, Maulana Noorani said that conditions were being created in the country which would result in upsetting the new parliament.

The MMA chief called upon people to demonstrate national solidarity in the next elections by uniting under the platform of MMA as the October elections would be a fight between the secular and religious forces.

He stressed the need to meet the requirement of fairplay and justice for elimination of terrorism in the country.
