Masters Cup from Aug 12

KARACHI, Aug 5: The second Almas Baig Masters Cup table tennis tournament will be held at Islmia Club Indoor Gymnasium from Aug 12-15, organizers announced Monday.

Country’s top 32 men and 16 women players will be taking part in the event which also serve as the trials for selection of Pakistan Ping Pong team for the Asian Games being held at Pusan (South Korea) from Sept 30-Oct 14.

Organizing secretary Salim Ahmed said that reigning national champion Asim Qureshi, Kashif Razzak, Bilal Yasin and Ali Faisal are among the 32 men players.

He said they will be divided into four groups and top three from each group will qualify for the super league after which Pakistan team for Asiad will be picked.

Women players included national champion Ghazala Roohi, Rahila Anjum, Shama Naz and Naila Anjum will be in 16 group.

These 16 women will be placed in four groups will two top from each group advancing in the super league.—APP
