KARACHI, Aug 5: An additional district and sessions judge, Malir, Abdul Malick, sentenced on Monday a man to death for murdering two brothers at the behest of their brother-in-law.
Farkhunda Jabeen, wife of Gulzar Ahmed, had lodged an FIR against her husband and his friend Gulab Khan for killing her young brothers Shah Rukh Jamal and Farrukh Jamal in her Steel Town house on January 24, 1998.
The judge also sentenced Gulzar to three years in jail with a fine of Rs5,000 for criminal conspiracy. The convict would have to undergo an additional three months’ imprisonment in case of default on the payment of fine.
Besides awarding death penalty to Gulab Khan alias Teddy, the judge also fined him Rs250,000. The hit man would have to undergo an additional two years’ imprisonment if he failed to pay the fine.
The complainant’s mother, Razia Begum, was also shot and injured in the attack on the two brothers.
SUMMONED: A banking court, headed by Judge Khadim Husain Junejo, issued a show-cause notice to Nasreen Jalil and her husband, M. A. Jalil, in a bank default case.
The judge ordered the couple to appear in the court on Aug 16 and explain why they had been failing to attend the court proceedings.
Mr and Mrs Jalil had obtained a loan of Rs144,000 from Allied Bank in 1997. The court issued on August 29, 2001 decree in favour of the bank.
The bank moved the court again as the borrower did not clear their outstanding dues in spite of the decree.
LAHORI: The anti-terrorism court-3, headed by Judge Arshad Noor Khan, fixed Aug 10 for formally arraigning four workers of the banned Lashkar-i-Jhangvi in four sectarian murder cases.
Mohammed Ajmal alias Akram Lahori, Ataullah alias Qasim, Mohammed Azam and Tasadduq have been sent up for trial in the cases, registered by Shah Faisal, Al-Falah, Soldier Bazaar and Korangi Industrial Area police.
The accused were supplied the copies of chargesheets, FIRs, memos and statements of the prosecution witnesses under section 265-C of CrPC.
Besides, the ATC-4, headed by Judge Khan Pervaiz Chang, fixed Aug 12 for formal indictment of Lahori and his accomplices in two sectarian murder cases, registered by Rizvia and North Nazimabad police.
QADRI MURDER CASE: The ATC-1, headed by Judge Aley Maqbool Rizvi, declared four workers of the Lashkar-i-Jhangvi absconders in the murder case of Maulana Salim Qadri, chief of the Sunni Tehreek.
