Think Thank surprises Arooj
LAHORE, Aug 4: Bay gelding Think Thank ably ridden by jockey Shahid Rehman cruised to a narrow win over fancied Arooj in the feature event of the Lahore Gymkhana races at the Racecourse Sunday.
Despite carrying a heavy impost of ten stones Think Thank took a flying start alongwith Shah The Great followed by Arooj. When the heads turned towards straight Shah The Great and Think Thank fought for a while, the former making way for the latter. Think Thank, had by that time led the field by three lengths. And when Aamar Parvez charged his mount in his bid to catch the leader he failed to make up by three-fourth of a length. Shahid Rehman’s handling of Think Thank was superb.
Gambling Girl and Jet Master completed the frame among seven runners left after the last minute withdrawal of Ahtisab. This was the sixth and last race of the day. Likewise the feature event all races were contested over the sprinting distance of 900 metres.
A race earlier the four to one chance chestnut gelding Crysler made amends for his defeat in the previous outing beating fancied On On by a length in a powerful finish. Flame finished third while Lucky Credit Queen completed the board among thirteen runners.
The magnificent bay colt Dane Hill Dancer with riding boy Khalil Vickey astride caused the biggest upset of the day.
Owned by a former olympian hockey star Munir Dar, Dane Hill Dancer took to an early lead right from the start. The colt from English sire Theatre’s Dream out-of-Rozina’s Folly increase his pace with each stride to win easily. He defeated Pistol Pete by over six lengths with Flying Fin and Super Time finishing in the same order.
Riding boy A. Aziz stole the limelight by bringing home a brace of winners. He began the day with a fluent win on Royal Man in the opener and then followed it with another easy victory on Royal Prosper in the third race.
Trainer Raja Tehmasab Khan excelled among trainers, saddling two winners. He sent out Crysler in the fifth and supporting event and Think Thank in the sixth and feature event. Only two favourites obliged the punters in a card of six events.
