ISLAMABAD, Aug 2: The Pakistan People’s Party has condemned the denial of medical treatment to its jailed leader Asif Ali Zardari and demanded his release.

A spokesman for the PPP through a press statement on Friday said doctors were called on Thursday for medical treatment needed urgently to the former senator, Zardari, when his blood pressure shot up.

Senator Zardari was given immediate treatment to contain the blood pressure and advised full rest.

However, the statement added: “The government was denying Zardari proper medical treatment deliberately with a view to harm him. Senator Zardari was suffering from spondolytis, a disease of the spinal bone which as a consequence of nerve compression, had shrunk and causing pain.” Instead of hospitalizing him for proper treatment, the senator was shuttled between various cities and courts to deliberately induce stress situations which have been medically proven to lead to heart attacks and strokes.

The PPP condemns the denial of proper health care to the senator as a grave contravention of the human rights about prisoners.

The Pakistan Peoples Party demands Senator Zardari’s immediate release. The Senator deserved liberty and denying him bail was wrong and perverse.
