PESHAWAR, Aug 2: NWFP Governor Syed Iftikhar Hussain Shah said on Friday that construction of nine bridges on Kohat-Khushalgarah-Rawalpindi road would be started soon.
Talking here to a seven-member delegation of Markazi Anjuman-i-Tajran, Kohat, the governor said the government was taking measures for development of the province with focus on the uplift of backward areas. He said that besides development activities being carried out under the local government system, a number of big projects had been launched by the provincial government.
He said the Commissioner’s House had been converted into a public library and it was being developed as a model community centre.
He said a secondary school was being established at Kohat through the Workers Welfare Board.
Iftikhar Shah said two degree colleges were being established in Kohat to meet the growing education requirement.
In the health sector, he said, apart from the network of facilities being made available through the government, the Al Shifa Trust had decided to establish an eye hospital in Kohat at a cost of Rs300 million.
Responding to the demands presented by the delegation, the governor said a big park was being established at the site of the old Kohat jail, which had been shifted outside the city.
He said the demand regarding provision of Sui gas would be taken up with the authorities concerned.
Provincial Education and Information Minister Syed Imtiaz Hussain Gilani was also present. The traders delegation was led by Ejaz Ahmad Paracha.
