KARACHI, Aug 2: The judicial magistrate Central-1 has ordered the return of two infant twin daughters to their mother, Ms Alia, who were forcibly taken away by her husband, Mohammed Naseem.

The man had sold one of the daughters to Shafeeh Hameedan, and handed over the other to his sister Shafeeh who had also been involved in the crime and was placed under arrest.

Ms Alia, with her father, Habibur Rahman, approached the CPLC. She said her husband had forcibly detained her one-year-old twin daughters and one of them was suffering from cardiac problem.

She was worried about her daughter’s health, as she needed care and attention of her mother. The CPLC Central chief, Murad Sohni, contacted Sarwar Commando, the SHO of Supermarket police station in Liaquatabad Town.

The SHO and Liaquatabad police, with lady CPLC member Nadra Begum and Mr Sohni, conducted a raid on Shafeeh Hameedan’s house in Gulshan-i-Iqbal and recovered one of the abducted girls. The other girl was recovered from Mohammed Naseem’s sister’s house in Liaquatabad.

Later, police also arrested Mohammed Naseem and Shafeeh Hameedan.

Mr Sohni contacted Zia Ahmed Awan, the President of the Lawyers for Human Rights and Legal Aid (LHRLA), and asked for legal help. Mr Awan sent an investigation team to Supermarket police station. The LHRLA arranged a lawyer to help Ms Alia.

The two accused, Mohammed Naseem and Shafeeh Hameedan, were produced in the court of the judicial magistrate Central-1. The LHRLA filed an application on behalf of Ms Alia and requested the court to hand over the girls to their mother.

The court considered the request and observed that it was a violation of human rights to keep away infant daughters from their mother.

The court released Mohammed Naseem and Shafeeh Hameedan on bail.

The next hearing will be held on Aug 5.

The LHRLA requested the court to act against the accused father and Shafeeh Hameedan in accordance with the Sindh Children Act.

The court said the district and sessions judge should take action on the matter. — PPI
