DADU, July 28: A patrolling system will be introduced by the irrigation department, especially in the tail-end divisions including Dadu and Thar, and wireless sets and vehicles will be provided to the patrolling officers.

This was disclosed by the provincial secretary, irrigation, Mir Mohammed Parhiar, while addressing growers and newsmen at the office of the SDO, Irrigation, Johi, on Sunday.

The chief engineer, Sukkur Barrage, the chief engineer, Development, and other officials were also present on the occasion.

He said that the desilting programme was going on at 30 waterways originating from the Dadu canal and the Johi branch including Phakka, Chhinni, Lakha, Noonari, and Talti.

He said that the complete share of irrigation water will be provided to the Dadu canal at the Wadha regulator and the Johi branch at RD-40.

The secretary said that the water theft would be controlled through the patrolling system as influential growers were directly involved in the water theft.

He admitted that owing to inefficiency of the local irrigation officials the problem of water shortage was created because at some places the lower staff of the department was also involved in water theft.
