HYDERABAD, July 28: Sagheer Ahmad Qureshi was elected vice-president of the PPP, Hyderabad city, by getting 266 votes and defeating his rival candidate, Ibrar Qureshi, in the party election held here on Sunday.
Pervez Ahmad Ansari and Zahid Ali Bhurgari have already been elected unopposed president and general secretary respectively.
According to Allah Bachayo Soomro, the chairman of the election commission, Dilshad Thaheem was elected treasurer and Roshan Solangi information secretary.
Zaheer Ghuman and Pasha Qazi have already been elected unopposed vice-president and coordination secretary respectively.
Iqbal Soomro was elected the secretary record.
There was a close contest for the offices of vice-presidents and two Sindh Council members that also led to some argument between the contesting candidates.
Fayaz Shah (74 votes) and Mir Fateh Talpur (169) were elected members of the Sindh Council while Mirza Ashiq Hussain Beg withdrew himself from the polling.
Fayyaz Shah told Dawn that polling started three hours late and continued for hardly two and half hours, followed by the announcement of results.
Allah Bachayo Soomro said he suspended the polling for some time in order to ensure polling in a peaceful atmosphere.
