MARDAN, July 27: In a move against private practice by government doctors, the Executive District Officer (Health), Mardan, has sealed the clinics of known radiologists and eye specialists here.
Following the directives of Director-General Health Habibur Rehman, the EDO, Dr Abdur Rahim, Deputy EDO, Arshad Khan, and Drug Inspector Israr Rahi, conducted raids at various places of the city and found a number of government doctors busy in private practice.
Those doctors who were found running private clinics included eye specialist of Mardan Medical Complex Dr Zia Khan and Dr Islam Gul, Dr Abdul Aziz and Dr Tariq Anwar, radiologists of DHQ Hospital Charsadda, Mardan Medical Complex and Saidu Group of Hospitals, respectively.
The EDO has sent a report to the quarters concerned.
Meanwhile, EDO Dr Abdur Rahim has warned other doctors of the state-run hospitals to refrain from private practice, otherwise, their clinics would be sealed and a stern disciplinary action against them would be taken.
It may be mentioned that under the health policy doctors of government institutions are not allowed to run their private clinics.
Drive against hepatitis: The Al-Khidmat Foundation will start a three-day vaccination campaign against hepatitis B and C in the district on Monday.
At a press conference, held at the Mardan Press Club on Saturday, the president of the organization, Dr Syed Badshah, said the foundation had decided to launch a vaccination campaign against the two diseases, which, he said, were fast spreading in the city.
He said the foundation would provide vaccines against the diseases at half prices to the children and adults. He added that the price of a single dose of hepatitis B and C vaccine in the market was Rs350 for an adult and Rs250 for a child.
Dr Badshah regretted that there were no vaccines against the diseases at the basic health units and rural health centres in the district.
