Day off at PBC for security reasons : President’s visit

ISLAMABAD, July 26: The employees of Pakistan Broadcasting Corporation (PBC) were given a day’s leave on Thursday, the day when President Musharraf visited the its headquarters for an interview and the launching of FM-101 channel.

Only the controller, deputy controller and indispensable technical staff, were allowed to enter the pre PBC premises.

It was a cherished holiday for the regular employees but he contract staff were deprived of a day’s salary.

The president’s security is being given unprecedented importance since the news of a failed assassination plot.

The police have orders not allow any moving or stationary vehicle on the president’s route.

This hike in the presidents security has created a lot of problems for the people of Rawalpindi and Islamabad.

Also, since Sept 11, the president’s entourage has swelled significantly, which includes large number security vehicles and three identical flag-bearing black Mercedes’ with tainted glass.

Media personnel and journalists are also feeling the pinch of this heightened security.

They are often subjected to extensive body search when invited to cover the president’s functions.
