UNITED NATIONS, July 26: Citing differences among the delegates of various countries, the Arab delegates deferred introducing a UN Security Council resolution on Israel’s military strike in Gaza.

Nasir Al Kidwa, a Palestinian UN observer, said on Thursday that the Arab ambassadors would meet again to discuss the resolution.

The Arab delegates fear that the US, which opposes the resolution as it stands now, would surely veto it.

Syria, the only Arab nation with a seat on the Security Council, reportedly believed the text, circulated informally by Saudi Arabia as current head of the Arab group of nations, was not worded strongly enough, sources said.

Syria was of the view that the language used by speakers in a late Wednesday Security Council meeting was a more forceful message to Israel than any resolution.
