Indian stocks fall

MUMBAI, July 24: Share prices fell 2.2 per cent on the Bombay Stock Exchange on Wednesday on sustained global weakness and on fears of a drought as key agricultural states awaited the arrival of monsoon rains, dealers said.

The 30-share BSE sensitive index shed 69.45 points to close at 3,107.48.

Dealers said fading hopes of a rebound in the regional as well as US equities triggered losses on the local bourses, especially after the weak opening of European markets. Indian shares had closed firm Tuesday on hopes of a rebound on the Wall Street on firming futures.—AFP
