KARACHI, July 23: Due to a fault in the power supply system from Wapda to the KESC, the corporation was compelled to exercise loadshedding in the night hours on Tuesday.
A KESC spokesman said that power supply to different areas in the city was interrupted from 9 pm, under the loadshedding plan, for at least one hour on turn basis.
“It is only due to the short supply from WAPDA,” said the spokesman adding that contrary to the regular supply of 200-300 MW from WAPDA during the night hours, the KESC had been able to get about 90 MW on Tuesday.
He expected that the supply would be normalized as soon as the supply position from Wapda improved or the city demand was reduced. At 9 pm the total demand was registered around 1600 MW, while the KESC was getting around 1200 from its own resources and 90 MW from Wapda.
Earlier at around 3.15 pm about 150-200 feeders tripped off due to an operational problem at the Wapda end, causing disruption of supply to many parts of the city, the spokesman informed.
The KESC system operated again under frequency at around 8.15 pm, causing problems to the KESC and ultimately to its consumers for about half an hour.
The loadshedding was first observed in the areas belonging to groups III and IV as designed by the KESC for the purpose of loadshedding.
