Jeffrey Archer conviction upheld

LONDON, July 22: Millionaire British author and politician Jeffrey Archer failed on Monday to have his four-year jail sentence for perjury and perverting the course of justice reduced.

It was the second blow of the day for the bestselling thriller writer — author of “Not a Penny More, Not a Penny Less” and “Kane and Abel” — who was earlier refused permission to appeal against his conviction.

Upholding the sentence, Lord Justice Rose said: “The fundamental question is whether the total sentence of four years for this criminality can be regarded as manifestly excessive. In our judgment it cannot.”—Reuters
