KARACHI, July 20: An interesting card of eight races has been drawn for the 16th day of Karachi Summer Gymkhana races which will be held today (Sunday) at the local race club. The first race will begin at 1.30 pm.

The present Managing Committee has taken a positive step to increase the number of events but it will have to show lot of discipline in conducting the day’s card.

Only last Sunday the day’s racing was completed in five hours, a delay which can hardly be justified. When every race takes place with a gap of half an hour the six-race card should be gone through in three hours.

The delay is caused when, the stewards decide half-heartedly to change the riders at the starting gate on the whims of the bookmakers or on their own information.

Whatever action they want to take for the betterment of the sport should be forth right and they should be firm in their decision. This is the only way to improve racing.

Another factor which can improve racing is that the course which is in bad shape should be improved.

Every race day one can see horses returning lame to the paddock and some have to be destroyed.

It is because the club management has failed to do anything to improve the track. It is the job of the secretary who is the head of the administration.

In the early morning exercises which begin before dawn almost every day, stray dogs bark and distract the horses.

Trainers and owners complain that the horses go lame as the track is not cleaned and gravels are found all over which speaks of the poor management.

The club management should try to improve the condition of the track which is in shambles.

Now reverting to today’s racing, Fantazam and Spring Fair are the pick.

The latter is tracking well for quite some time and with the blessings of the connection should just walk away.

In the second race, Jango, Abr-e-Noor, Sher Khan, Lucky Love and Clever Cat are the form animals.

The former is cut above class therefore should just have no problem in humbling Abr-e- Noor who may try run away tactics but find the last furlong a bit tiring.

Cute Lady is the class act in the third race. She had finished second behind Winning Queue last time out.

On that run she will be a hard nut to crack. Simple Prayer will be a safe place bet.

Flying Bird, Kiev, Small Wonder and Even Top are the form horses in the fourth race. The former on her last win gets my vote over Kiev who had recorded an impressive win only last week. Her only danger could be Aziz Love if he is supported by the stable.

Sarazen, Mahasagar, Champion Lady, Lover’s Line are the pick in the fifth race. The former was unlucky last time out when she was beaten by My Darling. On that run she will be hard to beat.

Champion Lady’s last run was dubious so she should not be ignored by the followers of form. She will, however have to wait for some time as Sarazen is by no mean an inferior customer.

Lucky Three, Laurel, Gissele and Donatello should provide some good competition if they are supported by their connections.

Lucky Three, however on her current form should have no problem winning in the present company. Her last run behind The Speed Star was not upto the mark. Laurel will be a safe place bet.

In the seventh race The Speed Star is form horse. Sandras Love, Champion Star and Trillionairess should fight for lower berths.

In the concluding event of the day, My Freedom though appearing after a long break should have no difficulty in humbling the present lot which has some highly bred horses but are competing with back breaking weight therefore cannot prove their standing.

Lover’s Lady, Charkh Bareen and Bold Commander should engage themselves for a fight for less remunerative berths.
