LAHORE, July 19: Punjab Governor Khalid Maqbool approved on Friday the scheme to develop Sialkot as the first model information technology district in the province.

The Punjab IT department has outlined a project worth Rs75 million to make Sialkot a fully automated e-district.

Spelling out the details, IT department Secretary Saeed Alvi said the project would be implemented after three years. In the first year, he said computerization of land, revenue, registries, domiciles, arms’ licenses and motor vehicle registration would be accomplished. He said the employees’ profile, government transportation, accommodation budget, ADP and crime monitoring would also be computerized besides provision of networking of government offices.

Pointing out flaws in the existing system, he said although, the ‘fard’ of citizen’s property was a public document according to law, it was not easily available to the department.

He said mismanagement of government resources was another problem given the fact that the government was the owner of precious real estate, motor vehicles, besides being the largest employer.

He said the current system lacked any proper methodology to devise a proper monitoring of the development schemes.

TRANSFERRED: The Gujranwala range DIG has transferred 10 sub-inspectors, 14 ASIs and 20 head-constables of Sialkot district police to the Punjab Constabulary, Farooqabad.
