HYDERABAD, July 19: Two unsuccessful raids were conducted at the Fort police station here on Thursday under the directives of the Sindh High Court and the District and Sessions Judge for the recovery of an illegal detainee.
The first raid was conducted by the fourth extra joint civil judge, Shahid Memon, for the recovery of Saleem Raza, whose mother had filed a complaint before the Hyderabad DSJ, who is also director of the Human Rights Board.
She stated that the Fort police had picked up her son but had not shown him arrested.
The DSJ, Parkash Lal M. Ambwani, appointed Shahid Memon commissioner to conduct raid at the police station and find out facts.
Memon paid a surprise visit to the police station but the detainee was not found there.
He submitted his report before the judge, saying that there was no lockup at the police station and the detainee could not be found there.
The second raid was conducted by Iqbal Ahmed Khan, the personal assistant to the SHC Hyderabad circuit bench judge, Justice Ghulam Rabbani, who appointed him raid commissioner.
With the lawyer of the applicant, Khan visited the police station and checked its rooms. He also checked the station diary and FIR book and took them into possession.
He also went into the room of the in charge of the investigation team but the detainee was not there.
The SHO, Fort, Khawar Gul, denied having arrested Raza and claimed that he was not required by him.
The SHO was bound down to appear before the court on Friday.
The SHO remained absent when he was called by the court.
He arrived later and filed an application, praying the court to condone his absence.
His application was allowed and the matter was fixed for hearing by a division bench.
POLICE: In view of the recent cases of burglaries and other criminal activities in the Hyderabad city, the AIG, Hyderabad region police, Abdul Rauf Yousufzai, on Thursday summoned all the 18 SHOs of the Hyderabad city, with the six TPOs and the DPO, to his office and gave them a dressing-down for being slack, inefficient, and lazy in the performance of their duties, reports our bureau.
He expressed his anger over the increase in criminal activities, especially burglaries, in the city.
He was furious that innocent citizens were being illegally detained at some police stations and told them to desist from this inhuman and unprofessional practice.
He also admonished the police officials for some alleged criminal activities at the Bhitai Nagar, Qasimabad, Site, Phulleli, and Pinyari police stations.
ARMY DESERTER HELD: The regional police, Hyderabad, on Thursday arrested an army deserter, four criminals, and two absconders.
It recovered three pistols, a rifle, 10 cartridges, and 10 bullets from their possession.
STOLEN CARS: The investigation staff of the anti-car lifting cell has recovered two stolen cars.
