ISLAMABAD, July 18: The price of a Roti (bread) has been increased to Rs2.50 in the capital due to recent increase in the price of wheat flour and gas. Previously, it was being sold at Rs2.

“We have increased the price of Roti in the capital after an approval given by the district administrations,” some Tandoorwalas said here on Thursday.

They said they had been trying to revise the price for the last one month and now, they increased it after a unanimous decision.

The Roti price, they said, could further go up by Rs50 paisa if the rates of wheat flour were not reduced.

There were complaints that Tandoorwalas had already reduced size and weight of the bread in the twin cities.

“A sudden raise in transport charges due to increase in fuel prices have automatically increased the Roti rates,” an owner of a Tandoor at G-6 area, Muhammad Zaman, said.

A senior official of the district administration told Dawn that a meeting of Tandoorwalas has been called to settle the issue.

“We have met them to keep the price of bread stable but the issue has not been resolved so far,” he added.

An owner of a Tandoor said he has increased the rate of 120 grams of bread by Rs2.50 according to the decision of Tandoor Owners Association.
