MANSEHRA, July 17: The Mansehra police have registered cases against 14 workers of banned religious outfits and the defunct Sipah-i-Sahaba under Sections 3/4 of the Explosive Substances Act and Sections 324/34 of the PPC in connection with the terrorist attack on the foreign tourists near Ashoka relics here.

The accused arrested in a crackdown launched after the incident were remanded into police custody for six days on Wednesday by Tariq Suhail Khan, city magistrate/senior civil judge, Mansehra.

The seven of the detainees belong to occupied Kashmir and one each from Azad Jammu and Kashmir and Punjab and five hail from the NWFP, police sources informed said.

The detainees were produced in the court under strict security cover.

A group of foreign tourists, mostly Germans, was attacked and nine of them were slightly injured, when they stopped at the Ashoka relics near Mansehra on their way to China through the famous Silk Route on July 13. Four locals had also received minor injuries in the attack.

The police launched a crackdown against the workers of banned groups and suspects in the district to nab the culprits.

Those produced in the court included Mohammad Shaheen, Syed Saqib, Mohammad Suleman, Mohammad Rafique, Ghulam Rasool, Mohammad Shafi, Obaidullah, Mohammad Farid, Zahid Mohammad, Latifur Rehman, Tauseef, Roshan Din, Attaur Rehman and Mohammad Naeem. They would be produced in the court on July 23.
